Blue Gas Marine, a US-based company, has introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) for operating passenger boats and ferries in Nigeria.

Layi Solesi, CEO of Ril Hydrocraft Limited, the distributor of the cylinder, highlighted CNG as a game-changer during a press conference in Lagos. Solesi emphasized that CNG offers significant benefits not only for road transportation but also for marine transportation.

The initiative comes after President Bola Tinubu approved the Presidential Compressed Gas Initiative in August. Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced that the initiative aims to reduce energy costs and ease the impact of petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians.

Solesi said that the launch aims to inform ferry and passenger boat operators about the availability of a solution that can enable boats in Lagos and across Nigeria to utilize CNG.
