A significant power outage at the National Assembly on Tuesday caused delays and disruptions to crucial legislative activities.
The Senate plenary couldn’t commence at its scheduled time of 11 am, with lawmakers waiting in darkness for over an hour before proceedings eventually started. The Senate generator was also reported to be faulty.
The power outage also affected the House of Representatives, where a scheduled session of the Public Accounts Committee with CBN officials over alleged revenue leakages couldn’t take place. The venue was in complete darkness, leading to the rescheduling of the meeting for the following week.
In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio apologized to his colleagues for the inconvenience and assured them that efforts are underway to address the situation.
