Delta State Government Partners with UK Firm for Mangrove Restoration Project

The Delta State Government recently finalized an agreement with a United Kingdom firm and other partners to restore mangrove forests, protect seagrass, and preserve the ecosystem for conservation and environmental sustainability.

The collaboration involves Serendib Capital of UK, Eight Versa, and the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), marking the second-largest mangrove restoration project globally.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Executive Chamber of the Government House, Asaba, underscoring the commitment to the extensive mangrove restoration and conservation initiative. Rafat Rizvi, the Chief Executive Officer of the UK firm, highlighted that the project will encompass approximately 250,000 hectares of land, reflecting the scale and ambition of the endeavor.

Governor Oborevwori praised all stakeholders for their forward-thinking approach and steadfast dedication to fostering a more sustainable environment for present and future generations.
