President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, directed the comprehensive implementation of the Oronsaye report, a significant step towards reforming Nigeria’s public sector.
The 2012 Oronsaye report identified 541 federal government entities, including statutory and non-statutory parastatals, commissions, and agencies, shedding light on the need for structural reforms.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information, disclosed President Tinubu’s directive to reporters following Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) session. The decision entails the dissolution, merger, or reorganization of various agencies to streamline governance costs and enhance efficiency.
Originally submitted to the Jonathan administration in 2012, the Oronsaye report’s recommendations were elaborated upon in a white paper released by the Jonathan government in 2014. Subsequently, the Buhari administration issued a second white paper in August 2022, although the report remained unimplemented until now.
