FG to Address Food Shortage with Grain Distribution

The federal government has expressed concern over the persistent food shortage in Nigeria and has announced plans to distribute 42,000 metric tons of assorted grains to address the escalating food crisis. \

Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture, revealed this during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the government’s commitment to alleviating food insecurity nationwide.

To tackle the food shortage, the government is intensifying efforts to boost food production and is in discussions with farmer associations to incentivize farming activities across the country. Kyari highlighted plans to engage farmers in producing food commodities and subsequently hand over the produce to the government for distribution to those in need. The minister assured that modalities for the distribution program are being finalized and will be implemented promptly to alleviate the food crisis.

By collaborating with farmers and stakeholders, the government aims to stimulate agricultural productivity and enhance food accessibility, thereby mitigating the adverse effects of the food shortage on Nigerians.
