A Jersey Royal Court in the United States has ruled that assets worth £6.9m ($8.9m) be returned to Nigeria.

The funds, allegedly diverted by Nigerian government officials in 2014 under the pretext of purchasing arms to combat Boko Haram, were identified in a Jersey bank account. The court’s decision supports claims that the money was likely stolen by Nigerian government officials during 2014.

Controversies surrounding the arms purchase for the fight against insurgency, particularly involving accusations against the then National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, continue to unfold, with funds meant for security equipment allegedly diverted during Jonathan’s administration.
