On Monday, June 12, 2023, President Bola Tinubu officially signed the Data Protection Bill into law, according to the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau.

The training of data protection officers and licensing of data protection compliance organizations to provide services to data controllers and processors are estimated to generate nearly 500,000 employment, according to the bureau.

It was mentioned that the new act is one of the clever approaches to fulfill Tinubu’s election pledge to generate one million employment for the digital economy. This was stated in a statement that Babatunde Bamigboye, the head of the NDPB’s legal enforcement and regulations division, signed.

According to Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the NDPB, the act will improve Nigerians’ rights to privacy and other fundamental liberties.
