Col. Hammed Ali (ret. ), Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, said concessionaires of the Customs modernization project have committed more than $300 million in the project. Following a mentorship lecture for newly hired Customs officials, Ali addressed the media and assured Nigerians that the modernization project will soon get underway.

He clarified that a public-private collaboration was used for the project. “The concessionaires would earn their money from what we collect and not that government will take anything out of its pocket,” he claimed.

Remember that Saleh Ahmadu, the Chairman of Trade Modernization Project Limited, the concessionaire of the facility, announced that $3.2 billion would be invested during the flag off of the Project Management Office of the Nigeria Customs Service Modernization Project in Abuja.  It is a public-private partnership project.

“Ali denied the allegations that some officers were not carried along in the course of the project, adding that the service did proper sensitisation for the project.
