In May 2023, 25.17 percent of Nigerians living abroad have National Identification Numbers. Since the National Identity Management Commission began its diaspora enrollment process in 2019, 427,962 Nigerians have been enrolled.
According to the World Bank, there were at least 1.7 million Nigerians residing abroad. Diaspora Nigerians were unable to renew their passports without NINs, and enrollment was not free. 77 international nations provide the service, according to a list on the NIMC website.
Over 100 million Nigerians have already been added to NIMC’s database. Lagos has 10.92 million NIN enrollees, Kano has 8.84 million, Kaduna has 6.19 million, Ogun has 4.19 million, and Oyo has 3.89 million.
