A strong and secure e-identity system is crucial, according to Aliyu Abubakar, Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, in order to improve digital infrastructure and encourage financial inclusion.
The National Identity Management Commission is aiming to give each Nigerian a distinct national identification number and a digital identity card, which is noteworthy work on Nigeria’s part in this field.
However, more need to be done to ensure that all Nigerians have access to affordable and reliable connectivity particularly those in rural areas.
“Discussing during a panel session on connectivity, the Chief Technology Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mohammed Rufai, who was represented by MTN Nigeria General Manager of Network Access Planning and Optimization, Nasiru Hayatu, stated that there was a need for connectivity to draw more Nigerians into the financial inclusion net.
