The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria received praise from the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority for its assistance and participation in the effort to get permission for the first pay increase for its employees since 2008.

The MWUN alerted the public in 2022 that pay for NPA employees had not been raised in more than ten years.

As a result, Sambo Mu’azu Sambo, the minister of transportation, announced a wage increase in January.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko, was quoted as saying in a statement.

Breaking the jinx of salary stagnation suffered for over a decade by the Authority’s employees was made possible with the support of the MWUN, and we thank them for their assistance.”
