The execution of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s agreement with the Pan-African Payment Settlement System is expected to promote intra-African commerce and support capital market diversification.

Dr. Okey Umeano, the director of the SEC’s Office of the Chief Economist, was reported as stating this in Abuja in a statement released by the SEC.

In order to enable cross-border payments throughout African capital markets, the Pan-African Payment Settlement System and the Nigerian Exchange Limited signed a Memorandum of Agreement in February.
