26 Power Plants Experience a Capacity Decline.
Out of the 29 power plants in the nation, 26 saw a 26% reduction in capacity, and three were completely shut down and unable to produce a single megawatt. On the other hand, between 2019 and December 2022, three plants were offline and unable to produce electricity.
The combined capacity of the government-owned gas plants still covered by the PPA, including Ibom Power, OmokuFIPL, Trans Amadi FIPL, and Afam FIPL, fell from 830MW to 185MW. Nothing was generated into the grid by Eleme.
In January 2021, the combined capacity of all the plants was estimated to be 13,461 MW, but as of July, it had decreased to just 4,022 MW. She claimed that everyone involved was committed to upholding the terms of the agreement designed to provide Nigerians with at least 5,000MW of electricity.
