Customs Seize 156 Trailers Carrying Grains, PMS, and Other Items.

According to the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, 93,102 bags of 50kg rice—equivalent to 156 trailer loads of rice—have been confiscated. The authority added that in 2022, among other contrabands, it had confiscated 656,414 liters of Premium Motor Spirit and 108 vehicles, including trucks, tankers, cars, and motorcycles.

Hussein Ejibunu, the acting Customs Area Controller in charge of FOU A, stated at a press conference in Ikeja that the total duty-paid value on contrabands was N14 billion. He stated: “Rice topped the list of our seizures in terms of volume”

In 2022, the government will receive a total of N878 million in revenue because to our recovery of duty payment deficiencies, he continued.

The A FOU  Customs boss said that the year 2022 for the unit was a period of sustained anti-smuggling onslaught, zero compromise for duty evasion and diligent facilitation of trade.
