10,053 Projects Provide Water to 37.3 million Nigerians, According to The FG.
The Federal Government and its partners in various states established 10,053 water supply schemes and projects in urban centers and rural areas, providing potable water to almost 37. 3 million Nigerians. Data from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Abuja revealed that the Federal Government alone developed 6,761 of the water schemes. Between 2016 and 2022, giving potable water to 32,008,600 Nigerians.
Also, it noted the federal government collaborated with states, local governments, communities, donor organizations, and development partners. This was to collectively create 3,292 water supply projects, serving a population of 5,262,189 people. The joint initiatives were created between 2018 and 2021 as part of the PEWASH program.
“The report outlined the 30 major water supply projects completed by the FMWR between 2016-2022. Some of the projects include the Central Ogbia Regional Water Supply Project, Otuoke, Bayelsa State; Northern Ishan Regional Water Supply Project, Edo State; and Ojirami Dam, Water Supply Scheme and Reticulation Network, Edo State.
“Also, the ministry successfully constructed over 7,200 compartments of sanitation and hygiene facilities in public places nationwide. This includes, markets, schools, parks, health facilities, IDP (internally displaced persons) host communities, and cholera hot spots.
