According to Mohammed Bello-Koko, managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, the 25-year port master plans will be completed before the end of the third quarter of 2023. In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH in Lagos, Bello-Koko stated that the policy, when put into effect, would direct the operations and locations of deep seaports and other ports throughout the nation.
He added that the agency has received proposals for the placement of ports intended for agricultural businesses. We think that this policy, which will direct the operations and locations of deep seaports and other ports, not just deep seaports, should be ready before the third quarter of 2023,” he noted.
When the policy is implemented, the NPA boss added, it will ensure that deep seaports are not approved indiscriminately. And we will also stick to the provisions of that policy and ensure that we don’t approve deep seaports at any other location.
