Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, met with American representatives of international technology companies in an effort to fortify collaborations for the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The meetings with the World Bank and Google were held concurrently with the US-Africa Leaders’ Forum, which was held in Washington, DC, and the visit to Space X was a follow-up to the event, according to a statement from Reuben Muoka, Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission.
According to the statement, Samuel Gibbs IV, the vice president of business operations at Space X, met Pantami there on behalf of Elon Musk, the company’s founder and CEO.
It claimed that both parties spoke during the visit, about how Space X could expand its presence in Nigeria, following its entry into the country’s market through the Starlink broadband service.
It said, “The minister also asked the Space X team to consider sourcing some of its engineers from Nigeria’s digital talent pool.”
