At the House of Representatives, there was debate over a bill that sought to exclude National Assembly employees from the contributory pension plan. The bill was scheduled for third reading, but Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila was compelled to postpone it so that the opposing sides could consult.
Bamidele Salam, the deputy chairman of the House Committee on Pensions, raised a point of order as the proceedings reached Item 13 under “Consideration of Reports” on the Order Paper to object to the planned passage when the bill was referred to the committee but the committee had not yet held a public hearing on it.
Gbajabiamila, who noted that the committee was supposed to conduct the hearing and report back to the House on the bill, said the House should reverse the process “if there is something fundamentally wrong.
