According to figures released in Abuja by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Nigeria received $741. 48 billion from oil and gas between 1999 and 2000. NEITI has completed and published 25 audit cycles on the oil and gas industry, spanning the years 1999 through 2020.
Its executive secretary, Dr Orji, further promised the Presidential Steering Committee that NEITI will give information and statistics in the oil and gas industry to assist in the efficient implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Olusegun Adekunle, the chairman of NEITI’s Governing Board, stated earlier that the board decided to prepare NEITI to fulfill Nigeria’s international obligation and meet Nigerians’ expectations on transparency and accountability.
