Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, the minister of finance, budget, and national planning, reaffirmed that the federal government will start gradually eliminating the gasoline subsidy in June of 2019. Ahmed said that the 2023–2025 Medium-Term Plan already had a clause providing for the elimination of the subsidies.
The minister’s remarks came after a previous warning from Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, the Nigeria Country Director for the World Bank, who insisted that subsidy was still Nigeria’s macroeconomic white elephant.
The award luncheon was attended by several state governors, development partners, senior government officials, and other guests.
The program’s main goal, according to her, was to promote widespread acceptance of excellent fiscal and public financial management practices by instilling a common set of fiscal behaviour and norms.
