The African Development Bank ($244 million) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development ($5 million) have given the Federal Government a total of $249 million (N109. 3 billion at official exchange rate of N439. 02/$) for flood prevention and food production.
Additionally, it has started building miniature earth dams; and is now replenishing the nation’s strategic food stockpiles with 200,000 metric tonnes of various goods. The minister of agriculture and rural development, said this during a news conference in Abuja; to outline how the government was addressing the food production interruptions caused by the recent flood disasters in Nigeria.
He claimed that in many places of Nigeria, the disastrous effects, destruction, and loss of life and property due to floods were becoming an annual occurrence.
Abubakar said that the 2022 wet season Agricultural Performance Survey was conducted nationwide by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; in coordination with pertinent ministries and agencies to inform its initiatives.
