Zamfara State in Nigeria Issues a Closure Decree for Media Covering Political Gathering.

In violation of a state-imposed ban on political activity, Zamfara state, Nigeria ordered five media outlets to shut down; after they covered a political gathering for the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

As a result of the state’s security crisis, Governor Bello Muhammad, outlawed political activities; including gatherings at private residences, on October 13. Campaigning for the February 2023 presidential elections, which began last month across the nation, is a taboo.

In Zamfara state and parts of northwest Nigeria, armed “bandits” have killed hundreds, abducted thousands for ranso;, blocked many routes, and made some farming impossible. The message listed five stores, including Pride FM Radio Gusau, NTA Gusau, Amji TV Gusau, Gamji TV Gusau and Alumma TV Gusau.
