Nigeria suffered significant financial losses as a result of the widespread theft of its crude oil; and it was unable to fulfill the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ quota.
Hence, according to the Senate Adhoc Committee on Oil Theft, investigations into oil theft and illicit bunkering; in the Niger Delta region have begun.
Akpan, a senator for Akwa Ibom North-East in the National Assembly as well as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Upstream, added that the committee would submit its findings and suitable recommendations to the National Assembly.
