As the world celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) yesterday under the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” President Muhammadu Buhari praised Nigerian women.
According to a statement issued by Buhari’s media adviser, Femi Adesina, the International Women’s Day was an opportunity to reflect on the vital role women played in society, homes, governance, the professions, and all walks of life. He observed that women were not yet where they should be in various fields of endeavor, but he believed they would not be denied for long because they consistently demonstrated their ability to compete on all fronts and in all fields.
The president applauded the contributions of women to his administration as ministers, special advisers, senior special assistants, executive directors, and executive secretaries, among others. He said women had been pulling their weight, and making it impossible for anyone to downplay their essence.
The president rejoiced with women and mothers around whom the tranquillity of homes and society revolves, praying God to grant them peace, joy, and satisfaction as they celebrate their day and always.
