European Union And German Agency Provide Financial Support To Nigeria Government

The  European Union and the German Agency for International Cooperation on Thursday provided additional £15m as financial support to the Federal Government through the Nigerian Energy Support Programme to boost the supply of electricity across the country.

Both organisations also announced the target of providing 130,000 Nigerians with electricity under the second phase of the NESP.

In her address in Abuja on Thursday at the signing ceremony and extension of the NESP Phase II, the Head of Cooperation, EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Cécile Pelzer, said the EU decided to extend the programme with the additional contribution of £15m, bringing the total support to £35m.

Pelzer said the NESP would address policy gap in the power sector and enhance private sector engagement to appropriately handle renewable energy equipment at the end of the project.
